The Indiana Fever have a love-hate relationship with their fans. If not much of overwhelming love, but some hate for sure. And that really came face-to-face for Kelsey Mitchell and found Sydney Colson in the firing range.
The Fever pulled off a gritty 76-75 win against the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday as they kicked off a crucial three-game road trip. Without star Caitlin Clark, who’s missed 17 straight games due to injury, the Fever leaned on Aliyah Boston’s dominant 22 points, 11 rebounds, and six steals, plus Odyssey Sims’ 21 points.
Sydney Colson Takes Stand For Kelsey Mitchell
But it was a rough night for Mitchell. She struggled with 12 points on 1-for-6 three-point shooting. A controversial no-call in the game’s final moments sparked frustration among the team, and one fan’s harsh comment about Mitchell drew a fiery response from teammate Colson, who’s been on the bench all season with a torn ACL.

“lmaooo sis KM and “star” don’t belong in the same sentence,” the fan tweeted.
However, Colson’s injury scare has had the Fever’s hopes under cloud, couldn’t control her honest reaction to it. Not one to take any foul shots on herself or her teammates, she fired back right at the fan’s chatter.
“Waking up hating like this is scary ah, but do have a BLESSED day,” she wrote.

She was right, though. Mitchell’s been the Fever’s rock, leading the team with 20.5 points, 3.4 assists, and 1.8 rebounds across 39 games this season. A three-time All-Star, she is carrying Indiana through a brutal stretch without Clark, Colson, Sophie Cunningham, and Aari McDonald, all out with injuries.
Sydney Colson Not Happy With WNBA Officiating
While venting it out on the noise fan, Colson kept the unhinged attitude. Post-game, she took to X(formerly Twitter) to call out the officiating, arguing Mitchell doesn’t get the same whistle as other WNBA stars.
“At a certain point in the league’s existence, ima need for Kelsey Mitchell to get the same whistle as other stars. The way she gets assaulted is insane actually & I’ve considered roping my sister in to have her office pursue charges,” she earlier tweeted.

Interestingly, this comment came right before the fan pointed out the Fever star in her tweet. And her controversial comment came on the same tweet. Additionally, her post caught attention, including from Clark, who jokingly warned her Indiana teammate.
“Careful you’re gonna get fined!” Clark jokingly commented.
Though the Fever’s fight against officiating woes has been a season-long saga. Colson’s not the only one speaking out, as her teammate Sophie Cunningham has been in the league’s eyes multiple times for calling out refs. She even got a couple of fines coming her way.
