After getting transferred to one of the most dominant programs in women’s college basketball, Ta’Niya Latson is now ready to take the next big step in her career. The talented guard has been getting a lot of praise across the NCAA landscape as she joins the South Carolina Gamecocks, a team already stacked with talent and championship expectations.
Latson, who made her name as one of the most efficient scorers in college hoops, brings a rare combination of speed, control, and shot-making, all of which make it to Dawn Staley’s roster. While Staley recently pointed out Becky Hammon’s potential NBA coaching challenge, the young guard would make sure to stand out.
Ta’Niya Latson Gearing Up For Breakout Season At South Carolina Gamecocks
Though she spent three glorious seasons at Florida State, Latson’s arrival at South Carolina couldn’t have come at a better time. The Gamecocks are entering a new phase after last year’s dominant campaign, and adding an elite scorer like the ACC Rookie of the Year gives the team an edge few programs can match.

However, her ability to create her own shot and apply defensive pressure aligns perfectly with Coach Staley’s aggressive style. According to High Post Hoops, Latson is expected to take on a leading role both on and off the ball. Her versatility could be another aspect for South Carolina to stretch the floor while maintaining a strong defensive identity.

While this might sound like an overstatement, Latson’s past performances back up the hype. At her previous program, she averaged over 20 points per game, while maintaining good field shot efficiency and ranking among the top guards in transition scoring. And coach Staley could still have another name to take pride in after A’js Wilson and Aliyah Boston.
