While Veronica Burton earns praise from coach Natalie Nakase for a Chris Paul-like performance, she definitely felt the pressure of delivering for the expansion team since becoming a free agent in 2025.
On the Golden State Warriors’ home opener day, the star was back in the town, attended motivational career talks with local schools in the area, and later backed the Warriors in the game against the Nuggets. Talking to the media, she opened up about her first year as a Bay Area player.
Veronica Burton Opened Up On Her First Season With Valkyries
There are many hard-working individuals behind the Golden State Valkyries’ extraordinary debut season, but one who stood out on the floor was former Northwestern star Veronica Burton.

After leading the offense of the side and making multiple clutch plays, the star opened up on her experience with the franchise, jokingly mentioning that she feels less pressure after the season is over.
“To be kind of just be a part of the Golden State family now, it hits differently after finishing our season and experiencing that. It was neat, a little less pressure, a little less fatigue than when we were back in Chase Center,” Burton joked.

With the upcoming expansion draft in mind, the Valkyries will look to protect the 25-year-old guard who remained consistent throughout the season for them. Connecticut Sun GM Morgan Tuck was also honest about Burton’s contribution after she left his organization.
While there are still a lot of things pending before the start of the 2026 season, the player would participate in the Unrivaled league, making her debut in the 3-on-3 league, and mentioned that it will be unique for her, kind of a different style of play, but something she would be looking forward to.
Veronica Burton Attended Golden State Warriors’ First Home Game
The WNBA sides are supporting their city’s NBA sides on the season openers. Aliyah Boston also confirmed her support for the Indiana Pacers. Aaliyah Edwards and Saniya Rivers stole the spotlight at the Boston Celtics’ NBA season opener game. Similarly, the Valkyries stars attended the Warriors’ home opener at the Chase Center.
Burton was at the arena with Kayla Thornton and Kate Martin. Fans rejoiced watching the three stars on the big screen. The Warriors defeated the Nuggets in overtime.

When asked about her favorite home crowd, Burton laughed and said, “Oh, don’t get me in trouble. I love Ballhalla, so I’m always rocking Ballhalla.” The 25-year-old will be a key player in the Valkyries’ upcoming seasons.
