As the dust settles on the 2025 WNBA season, most of the teams are looking ahead to the upcoming season. But before that, they would want to get the best possible combinations for their franchise.
Well, as of now, the free agency market will be an area of high interest. And later on, the 2026 WNBA Draft will serve as the perfect platform for the teams to rake up some quality rookies. Now, speaking about the drafts, one team who have evoked interest recently is the Seattle Storm.
In a surprising turn of events, Noelle Quinn was sacked from her position following the team’s playoff exit. And while they have appointed a new coach, the focus now shifts to their 2026 draft pick.
Seattle Storm Closing In On A Major Draft Pick
Storm already had a lottery pick last year, where they moved Jewell Loyd and Kelsey Plum to rope in Dominique Malonga. And while Malonga has emerged as a future superstar, all they need is to build a team around her.

For the second straight year, the Storm will have a lottery pick. This time, they will be using the Los Angeles pick as they sent Kia Nurse to the Sparks. And that’s not all. The franchise might also have a pretty high chance of landing the top pick.
But in reality, the Storm will not need a number one pick to strengthen their side. As of now, the team is expected to be built around Malonga. They will also have Jordan Horston and Nika Muhl to complement Malonga.

One of the biggest possibilities is that the Storm rakes up Olivia Miles. However, that might not be possible as Miles is expected to be drafted within the first two picks. Well, looking at Storm’s composition, the likes of Azzi Fudd or Flau’Jae Johnson, too, will be a great pick. Thus, all in all, the future of the team is looking pretty solid, especially after the Storm appointed Sonia Raman as their head coach.
Seattle Storm Earns Praise Following Sonia Raman’s Appointment
Shams Charania broke the news of Storm appointing New York Liberty assistant coach Sonia Raman as their head coach. Raman, who worked with the MIT for twelve years, remains the winningest coach of the program. And that’s not all. Raman has also served as the assistant coach for the Memphis Grizzlies. Surely, it seems the Storm have secured a prized asset this year.

Speaking about Raman, former Grizzlies’ star, Xavier Tillman said, “She deserved it. She worked super hard, dedicated to the film, dedicated to the craft, and loves basketball.”
