The CBA deal is coming into effect, with players’ massive salaries and contracts hitting the news. Kelsey Mitchell became the first player to sign a supermax contract, while Jackie Young was the first WNBA star to earn a million-dollar contract. Wilson is also not behind on her most lucrative $5 million contract in the WNBA, while Aliyah Boston signed the highest-value contract, worth $6.3 million over four years.
Interestingly, though the Fever forward immediately took a substantial pay cut in her contract, which surprised many. Amber Cox had an explanation for the same.

Aliyah Boston With $190,000 Pay Cut
The WNBA players are showing their hunger for ‘championships’ with Kelsey Plum and Sophie Cunningham sacrificing from their pockets to allow their respective franchises to build a contender team. Yet no one made a huge sacrifice as the 2023 Rookie of the Year winner did for the Fever side.
“Aliyah is such a team player,” she told Fever Insider. “Obviously wants to win above all. Her winning pedigree and her competitiveness are what make her elite. So this was part of the conversation as we were going through free agency, as we were talking about players that we were potentially able to sign. And we’re just really grateful that Aliyah worked with us on this and really allowed us to create some depth at every position because she was willing to shave off a few dollars this year.”

Under the new CBA terms, the player was eligible to earn approximately $1.19 million in 2026. However, former South Carolina star agreed to take $1 million flat after the deal and help the franchise with crucial cap flexibility.

The Fever not only tied their key player for four more seasons, but can now shift their focus to other key contributors who will enter their final rookie contract year in 2027- Caitlin Clark.
Aliyah Boston’s Decision To Impact Caitlin Clark’s Upcoming Contract
Getting back-to-back top picks and drafting Boston and Clark certainly handed the franchise certain building blocks for the future. While the duo thrives together and has been impactful for the side right from the start, the franchise will now focus on tying CC for a longer contract in her final season.
Signing Keley Mitchell and Cunningham to one-year deals and keeping hold of multiple other pieces for two years highlighted the Fever’s strategic aim to focus on Clark’s mega contract, possibly the largest in WNBA history. AB’s scarifying part of her salary certainly helps the team to push an extra mile for the Iowa star and bring in another impactful player.
While the Fever team faced a tricky 2026 WNBA free agency decision involving Aliyah Boston, the 25-year-old just helped them out to make it a smooth transition.
