The Indiana Fever has its 2025 core back in the lineup and also added strong backup players via free agency and the WNBA draft. Star player Caitlin Clark already praised the addition of Monique Billings, strengthening the forward line-up for the side, but there is one more rookie, Raven Johnson, who could be a key contributor to the Fever’s success in the 2026 season.
The top pick of the 2026 WNBA draft for the Fever was a shocker for many, considering the history between Johnson and CC, but they hit it off in the training camp, forming a close bond and ready to do everything for the team’s victory.
In the recent interview, the playmaker opened up on her new role as mentor to the rookie, praising her willingness to learn.

Caitlin Clark Ready To Mentor Raven Johnson
After playing just 13 games in the 2025 season, the 2024 rookie is excited to play a big role in the upcoming season. Stephanie White, though, has different expectations from Clark, and the front office also backed the coach with multiple guard additions. Now the 24-year-old has to be a mentor for those incoming stars and also perform on the floor for the team.
During the recent press conference, the media asked CC about her mentorship role with Johnson. The guard said, “It all kind of happens so fast. I remember when I was a rookie, and the terminology is like the hardest thing to kind of understand. WNBA plays a different style than you play in college. She asks a lot of really great questions, and as a point guard, that’s the extra load you carry. Just trying to help her in every way I can.”

Trending WNBA News
As the playmaker and leader of the Fever roster, the former Iwa star already has many responsibilities, and having a talented mentee like Johnson certainly lessens the load.
Ironically, as per Candace Parker, Clark already played a huge part in shaping Raven Johnson’s career in college with the infamous 2023 wave-off incident. And now the players have altogether different relationships in the WNBA. It’s important to note that the former South Carolina star is open to adjusting to the system and has nothing but praise for CC.
Raven Johnson Considers Caitlin Clark A ‘GOAT’
The Fever front office made a strategic addition as its top pick in the 2026 draft, looking at the rookie as backup for CC. While she has been a wonder player at the NCAA level games, being at the pro level and filling in for the 2024 Rookie of the Year winner is certainly a heavy ask.
But the player is learning quickly, and various training camp videos have her back on track to be a great player in the league. In one of the practice sessions, Johnson saw Clark hitting a three-pointer off the dribble. The 22-year-old went on the court to give the two-time All-Star a high-five and huge shout-out. Then, looking at the camera, she said, “The GOAT right there.”
As for the franchise, their combination will be essential as Stephnie White often chooses to play ‘small’ in the games with multiple guards on the line-up, and Johnson’s early development would be a huge bonus in that system.
