Alanna Smith Disappointed Dallas Isn’t Full Of Cowboy Hats And Boots

The Minnesota Lynx had a quieter free agency. Although they didn’t sign any big-name player, the side certainly lost one of their gem, Alanna Smith, in the free agency. Smith joins forces with Paige Bueckers on a three-year max contract, showing her ‘worth’ on the floor.

The Wings are loading up for the 2026 season, putting their faith in multiple acclaimed players on the court. Players also joined the Wings’ project with their own aspirations and expectations, but for the former Lynx star, there was huge disappointment in one off-court aspect.

Alanna Smith Expressed Her Disappointment About Dallas

While PB’s press conference featured the 2025 rookies wearing cowboy hats and boots, showcasing them as part of Texas culture, Smith didn’t see the same on the streets, as she recently said in her press conference.

“When I visited, I didn’t get to see much of this place, but I had assumptions that it was like the wild west out here like all cowboy hats and cowboy boots. So, I’ve been a maybe a little bit disappointed that it’s not like that. More cowboy hats,” Smith said.

With teams like the Dallas Cowboys in the region and movies also portraying the region as full of cowboys, Smith’s expectations were valid, and maybe the vets on the team need to help her out with this disappointment, too.

Even though the city didn’t live up to the forward’s expectations, she did find a perfect partner in the Wings’ roster who would elevate her game, and the star praised her in the recent interview.

Alanna Smith Praises Paige Bueckers’ Playmaking

While the former UConn star is an explosive scorer against many opponents, the former LNX star highlighted an underrated quality of her teammate in a recent interview.

“Paige is an elite scorer from three levels, but her ability to distribute as well as see the floor, I think, is underrated, and when we start building that trust, I’m gonna benefit a lot from it,” Smith told the media after the training session.

PB showcased her passing ability in the rookie season, too, and with the addition of new elite scorers, the guard could take the team to the next level. Coach Jose Fernandez also listed Bueckers’ qualities that make her the best player in the league. As for Smith, she is also a decent post-up player, and her chemistry with guards like Bueckers will help her improve on the scoring numbers, too.
