The recent CBA has been historic. When the board of governors approved the proposal, players knew that the implications would be game-changing. Likewise, we have seen several instances of WNBA athletes signing a million-dollar contract. Even the rookie contracts got a significant boost.
Unfortunately, that was not the case with Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham. Having sacrificed her personal goals to team up with Caitlin Clark, the 29-year-old recently created a buzz. Criticizing her contract publicly, the former Missouri Tigers star garnered a reaction from head coach Stephanie White.

What Did Stephanie White Say About Sophie Cunningham’s Rant?
Only recently, the Missouri-born could be seen dancing inside the Fever locker room. However, she grabbed the spotlight for all the wrong reasons in a recent episode of her ‘Show Me Something’ podcast. Speaking about her new one-year deal with the Indiana Fever, the 29-year-old stated that she was not happy about it.
Commenting on the matter, Fever head coach White told ESPN’s Kareem Copeland, “Look, it’s part of the business. Players, they want to know where they’re going to be, of course. They want to know where they are. And organizations want to make sure that they’re making the right decisions for now and for the long term.”

White further extended her support, pointing out that athletes are humans too. And they, too, wanted job security and a long-term commitment with the franchise they are under contract with. Surely, as the Fever is aiming for a title run, Cunningham will play a major role in the quest. Thus, it is important for White and co. to offer her comfort and encourage her to deliver some stellar performances.

Sophie Cunningham Shut Down Rumors Of A Possible Trade

Immediately after her comments from the ‘Show Me Something’ podcast went viral, rumors began to settle in. Critics and fans alike speculated whether the 6-foot-1 star was unhappy in Indiana. There were also rumors about the ‘enforcer’ getting ready for a possible trade. However, clearing up the buzz, the 2019 second-round pick stated that she is going nowhere.
“I’m gonna shut this down right now. I’m not mad about the money. I just wanted more years because I love it here,” she said. “I wanted to get a house so I could bring my dog and donkey to Indy with me. That’s it. That’s the truth. I think we have something very special here in Indiana!!” Cunningham wrote on her X account on April 20.
