The WNBA is all set to start the 2026 season, with the progress so far showing encouraging signs. The players and teams are busy with their preparations and selections in the free agency, while the league is also setting the stage for the upcoming WNBA draft. Amid this, there is one lore milestone that the Los Angeles Sparks achieved in the league – completing 30 years alongside the league.
As one of the founding franchises in the ‘W’, the franchise also celebrated its thirtieth season. The team is also looking to strengthen its core and did so by adding its champion, Nneka Ogwumike, to the roster.
But off the court, too, the side also had a special moment, mentioning its 30th anniversary, using two of LA’s superstars, LeBron James and Cameron Brink, and fans are loving it.

Los Angeles Sparks Gearing Up For 2026 Season
The Los Angeles Sparks have undergone a dramatic transformation for the 2026 season, positioning themselves as one of the most dangerous rosters in the WNBA. The biggest splash is the return of franchise icon and 2016 MVP Nneka Ogwumike, who returns to LA after a year in Seattle. The backcourt is further bolstered by the reported addition of veteran guard Ariel Atkins.
Also, the Sparks secured their foundation by using the core designation on superstar Kelsey Plum and signing All-Star forward Dearica Hamby to a multiyear extension.

The Sparks are going to be a team to watch with Kelsey Plum, Hamby, Nneka Ogwumike, Cameron Brink and some other moves to come.
There are some departures, though, as the team lost depth in the expansion draft, with Julie Allemand and Sarah Ashlee Barker departing for Toronto and Portland. Additionally, Azura Stevens left in free agency to join the Chicago Sky.
The Sparks now boast a “Big Three” of Plum, Hamby, and Ogwumike, providing elite scoring and veteran composure. This leadership is paired with two of the league’s brightest young stars: defensive anchor Cameron Brink and scoring threat Rickea Jackson. With Brink’s shot-blocking, Jackson’s versatility, and a core of proven champions, the Sparks can be a contender in the season.
