The WNBA Season will start from the second week of May, and along with two new franchises, fans will see many new coaches on the floor, too. The Dallas Wings revamped the side built around star player Paige Bueckers and also have a new coach, Jose Fernandez.
The NCAA Veteran coach is taking his first WNBA assignment and is already under scrutiny, with reporters asking players about their first day of training. Interestingly, UConn Huskies coach Geno Auriemma hailed Jose Fernandez as a perfect fit for the Wings and Bueckers, and now, here is what the player has to say about the new coach.

Paige Bueckers Compares Jose Fernandez With Geno Auriemma
The former UConn star earned her name with the program’s dominance and won multiple individual and team titles, including the NCAA Championship in 2025. While Geno Auriemma was masterminding the shaping up of the talented guard, as per Bueckers, she got a similar coach at the Wings.
When reporters asked her about her views on Jose Fernandez, she said, “He does remind me a lot of Coach Geno. In terms of discipline, structure, the culture that he wants to build, and the no BS mentality where he doesn’t let anything slide. He’s very detail-oriented, but he also communicates well with the players.”
