It’s been a wild week for the WNBA, and it’s only getting wilder with each passing game. During the Indiana Fever’s recent game against the Los Angeles Sparks, things took a messy turn. It was a home game for the Sparks, who were hosting the Caitlin Clark-less Fever at Crypto.com Arena.
With 2:05 left in the second quarter, a green sex toy was chucked from the stands. While there was some action going on around the paint area, the objectionable item almost hit Sophie Cunningham. It landed right near her legs and possibly smacked the Indiana guard.
Cameras Caught Sophie Cunningham Dodging Flying Sex Toy
The Sparks pulled off a 100-91 win over the Fever. Despite a good showing from the squad, with Kelsey Mitchell leading the charge with 34 points, they had no answer to LA’s dominance. Four of the Sparks players clocked double-digit points. But that was not the night’s highlight.

It was Cunningham who was putting effort from her side, but unfortunately became the target of an ugly trend. As cameras caught her, the 2019 WNBA Draft had to take a surprising jump to avoid getting hit with a green dildo.
She jumped back, clearly caught off guard, while Sparks guard Kelsey Plum quickly kicked it away. The incident came as a third occurrence of any such NSFW scenarios. Videos from different angles of the moment later went viral.
However, Cunningham’s been a fiery force for the 16-12 Fever, and her recent tweet begging fans to stop throwing sex toys on the court made this moment hit harder. She laughed it off with the Sparks bench, but it’s clear this is no joke. As the WNBA deals with this growing problem, it’s concerning as there are many young hoop fans tuning in for the game.

Sophie Cunningham’s Recent Tweet Came To Bite Her
While most other fans are taking the dildo incident as just a moment to laugh off and forget the other night, this could hurt in the long run. These incidents are casting a shadow over the WNBA’s thrilling 2025 season. Cunningham’s been a spark for the Fever, dropping 15 points in a recent win over the Aces, helping them stay in the playoff hunt.

But this nonsense, also reported in Phoenix and New York, where a toy landed near a kid at Barclays Center, is getting out of hand. Fans are fed up and calling out the league to hand out harsh punishments to those throwing stuff at the court.
Interestingly, it was not long ago when Sophie Cunningham cautiously tweeted that the adult stuff might hurt one of the players during the game. The tweet didn’t age well.
The league’s boosting security, but it’s got to be about the hoops. As the Fever gear up for their next game, Cunningham and her teammates deserve to shine without worrying about objects flying their way. If fans and the WNBA don’t shut this down, it risks dimming the spotlight on the incredible talent driving the league forward. Or, at worst, taking away all the charm we got to see lately.
