The WNBA will start on May 8 as the prerequisites are already in the completion phase. Many saw a delay in the CBA as a blockage to the 2026 WNBA Season, but the league and WNBPA sorted things out to get the process started. Amid this, the USA Basketball held three training camps and also participated in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers.
The team entered with many young stars on the roster, with Caitlin Clark earning the top accolade in the competition, leading the line with points and assists. But WNBA Analysts see this as the team’s preparations for the LA Olympics, which will take place in LA in 2028.

Team USA Basketball Preparing For LA Olympics
Following Team USA’s thumping win in the FIBA Qualification games, the USA basketball team held another camp. The decision was surprising, especially with very few names from the qualification games joining the camp. Addressing the same, WNBA Analyst Sabrina Merchant mentioned that the USA Basketball is working for the LA Olympics, which is two years from now.
In her analysis, she said, “We are two years out from the LA Olympics, but the work is already getting started with the USA Basketball. Their third training camp in four months and it is becoming very clear that the future of USA Basketball is already on the court.”
Although the LA Olympics are still two years away, USA Basketball has already begun the work, with its future on the court.

She pointed out that Paige Bueckers is the only player attending all three training camps, and Sue Bird sees her as a ‘binding’ member of the team. While Diana Taurasi saw Caitlin Clark as the perfect player to wear her jersey No. 12, she might be another name joining the side for the Olympics. And Angel Reese also got backing from Lisa Leslie.

As one of the most successful teams on the international stage, Team USA is always a contender for top prizes. But following the retirement of their star player, the team now looks at some of the young players to step up.
Team USA Basketball Shows Great Potential
Sue Bird, Maya Moore, Candace Parker, and Diana Taurasi are a few names that showed the way to win on the biggest stage of women’s basketball. Not only are they multiple WNBA champions, but they also led the national team to gold medals and World Cup wins, too.
Now, A’ja Wilson, Sabrina Ionescu, and Chelsea Gray are some of the players who played with those legends and carry the torch for the national side. Along with them, the team is building a younger core, including available rookies Paige Bueckers, Caitlin Clark, and Angel Reese, to ‘secure the future’.

Interestingly, these stars have already played together at the U-16 and U-19 levels and won titles with the team. For the LA Olympics, the USA basketball team will have a perfect mix of veteran stars and young players with vast experience, putting them in a contender position again, and as Sabrina Merchant claims, the preparations would lead to another Gold medal at the LA Olympics.
