The Indiana Fever reached the semifinals without the likes of Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, and more sidelined last year. Thus, with all their stars available from the start this season, the team has sparked strong speculation about making a deep run. One of the mainstays of last year’s team was Kelsey Mitchell.
Without her heroics, Stephanie White’s team could not have dropped such a stellar playoff run. Coming to the 2026 season, Clark spoke about the importance of re-signing Mitchell. And while the new season is coming up, the 30-year-old announced a new personal commitment.

Kelsey Mitchell To Continue Her Studies Beside Her Indiana Fever Stint
Quite expectedly, the Fever front office signed the 5-foot-8 guard to a supermax contract. Signing the deal for a year, fans will hope to see one more season of utter dominance from her. Amidst all these, the 3-time WNBA All-Star, along with Aliyah Boston, cannot stop receiving accolades. Recently, the duo was honored for their community leadership during the Steward Speakers Annual Fundraising Gala & Award Ceremony.
During the Q&A session, the Ohio native announced that she is going back to school. Pursuing her Ph.D in Educational Leadership, Mitchell stated that the initiative she took was a pretty challenging one.
“I’m getting my Ph.D. in Educational Leadership. Yeah, it’s pretty hard being a student athlete at 30, but I guess I can do it. But it’s been humbling. Recently, I just did a research class, and it was the worst in my life, y’all. I was fighting for my life,” Mitchell stated.

Stephanie White Hails Kelsey Mitchell As Fever Looks For Glory

The Fever front office has done a remarkable job in free agency. Retaining most of their core from last year, White and Co. are in a pretty good state. Now then, while the team’s fulcrum is Clark, White pointed out that she was determined to rope in the 30-year-old at any cost.
“Kelsey was our No. 1 priority in free agency. You know, making sure that we’re resigning her, making sure that she understands how important she is to everything that we are going to do. She is probably the one person on our roster that can just get a bucket (and) doesn’t need any help,” said White.
