The new CBA agreement has now been approved. But the path to the same was rocky. With multiple missed deadlines and significant protests, the season seemed wrapped in darkness. And it was during this time that the New York Liberty star Natasha Cloud voiced some strong support for the players.
Lashing out at the WNBA, Cloud vehemently criticized the league’s omission of housing policies. And that’s not all. She was also an active voice for the pay equity movement, taking shots at Cathy Engelbert and co. often. Unfortunately, this might have led teams to blackball her from the league.

Has Natasha Cloud Been Blackballed In The WNBA?
Cloud has been one of the biggest names in the league. Surprisingly, the veteran star, who played 41 games last season, has remained without a team until now. With less than fifteen days remaining, rumors are swirling about why teams have not picked up the 34-year-old. Reports cite her offseason activism as one of the main reasons. However, according to Annie Costabile, teams might soon pick up the Liberty star.
In a recent update on X, Costabile pointed out how more than one source has told ‘The Athletic’ that teams are showing interest in the veteran star. Interestingly, the 2022 WNBA assists leader might ultimately end up with a championship-contending roster.
“Natasha Cloud remains unsigned heading into the second week of training camp. Speculation has swirled as to why, but multiple sources tell me numerous teams have expressed interest in the veteran point guard,” wrote Costabile.

Well, this will surely ease her fans’ nerves significantly. Going back to what led to that decision from New York, the salary cap seems the main culprit. Liberty general manager Jonathan Kolb had earlier voiced strong support for Cloud. This came despite reports suggesting she might not be a good culture fit.
Speaking at the annual presser this Sunday, Kolb stated, “There’s a lot out there that I’d just like to dispel. She’s an awesome human being. She’s a phenomenal basketball player. She belongs in the WNBA.”
Meanwhile, reflecting on her current situation, the Liberty star had a lot to say.
Natasha Cloud Got Emotional Describing Her Present Scenario
When the Liberty got Satou Sabally as their big free agency signing, the writing was on the wall for Cloud. Reflecting on her journey so far, the 2019 WNBA champion took to her Threads account and had an emotional outburst.
“I’ve given my heart to every team and community I’ve been part of, never fully knowing if the impact I hoped for was truly felt,” Cloud wrote.
Natasha Cloud shared a message on Threads as she remains one of the WNBA's top unsigned free agents.

She further added, “In this moment, though, receiving so much love, support, and advocacy means everything. It’s a powerful reminder that the impact I’ve wanted to make beyond the court is real — and aligned with what I believe God has called me to do through this game. I’m okay. Just taking things in; even if they weren’t what I expected, and trusting I’ll be alright.”
Surely, with things looking a bit complex, fans cannot wait to see what happens next.
