The Dallas Wings’ selection of Azzi Fudd brought no energy to the roster. The UConn connection with Paige Bueckers had been the highlight of the selection, as the franchise is looking to copy their championship run in the league, too. Carmelo Anthony backed Fudd’s selection even before the franchise chose its first overall pick, and fans are now waiting to see them thrive on the floor.
Amid this, a sports writer, Jeff Pearlman, raised a question about the lesser coverage of their personal relationship, too, as the duo had been dating for many years now.

Jeff Pearlman Surprised By Coverage Of Azzi Fudd And Paige Bueckers Relationship
Earlier in the press conference, Wings’ PR team shot down questions around Fudd-Bueckers relationship, looking to avoid the personal lives interfering with the game. While their attempt made the headlines, senior writer Jeff Pearlman recently shared a TikTok video questioning why their personal relationship received less coverage.
“Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers are in a long-term relationship, and nobody’s mentioning it. And the WNBA clearly has asked people not to mention it. And it’s very journalistically confusing to me,” he said in the video.

“Like, it is fascinating that these two people who have been dating for a long time, dating back to college, would be the starting backcourt for a team. To me, that is actually the number one piece of this story. It’s not just that they drafted Azzi Fudd, they drafted Azzi Fudd to play with her longtime partner, Paige Bueckers,” Pearlman added.

While Fudd is the ‘People’s Princess, and Bueckers also receives lots of love from fans, there is not much cliche about their relationship in the fanbase. Yet, the Texas franchise is focusing on the task at hand, looking to put their personal lives separate from their on-court work.
Still, the reunion had been an agenda for reporters as the 2026 rookie spoke about it on ESPN.
Azzi Fudd Opens Up On Playing With Paige Bueckers
The 2025 NCAA Champions had Bueckers as the top scorer for the UConn Huskies, while Fudd won the Most Outstanding Player award for the Final Four. Many fans are excited to see this deadly combination enter the league and join forces.
Talking about their chance to share the space, Fudd said, “I feel like there’s still so much left on the table and so much unknown – just so much potential – with not just her but the entire Dallas Wings roster. I can’t wait obviously to play with her again but to play with every single one of them.”
